Tina’s She Shed by the Pond Shore

What is a She Shed? It’s not a place that requires a lot of money, time, or effort.  It’s simply a dedicated space outside of the home for work and/or play. It’s basically the female version of the man cave. The She Shed can be as simple or elaborate as you desire and can be furnished and decorated however you like. This trend has become even more popular in the last couple of years.

We recently had the opportunity to speak with a Westwood customer who set up her own She Shed in Franklin County, Georgia.  We quickly learned her space is so much more than just a She Shed.

Tina's Story

Tina Brock co-founded Franklin Life, a pregnancy resource center, in 2002.  This organization provides for the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of those who find themselves in an unexpected pregnancy. For years, Tina has seen many women in the center who are homeless and in need of a place to stay until they can get on their feet. Often, there is no place to send them as resources are limited. The Lord began to give Tina a vision for a shelter for women or girls who are pregnant or coming out of sex trafficking.  “It’s God’s vision, not mine”, Tina said.  “I’m just walking it out with Him. I want to be his hands, his feet, and his voice.”

“There is a special peace that surrounds this place. Some days I just love sitting on the porch and watching the ducks on the pond. Many evenings there is a peace and quiet with just the sound of the wind chimes hanging from the porch.  During the warm summer nights, the sound of the frogs can be heard for hours.”

In what appears to be perfect provision, Tina had recently inherited about 40 acres of land that boasts a quaint little pond. She instantly knew God had already provided the first thing needed for this new ministry—land that she could donate to get things started. Now it was time for the work to begin. Very quickly, Tina knew she wanted a small building by the pond on this newly acquired land. She had heard of Westwood Sheds and knew she wanted to buy from them.  One day, she was pleased to see a Westwood Sheds lot had opened in Commerce, GA. She stopped in to speak with Larry Wilson and he helped her find the perfect model for her She Shed. Tina selected a 10’ x 20’ utility shed with an electrical package and a porch—an absolute necessity according to Tina.  She chose Cape Cod Gray Smartside siding with white trim and galvalume metal roofing.

The She Shed is Born

Once the shed was delivered, the She Shed transformation began. Tina liked the grayish-silver color of the inside of the shed so she painted everything else to match. She wanted this to be a place for prayer and reflection, but it also needed to be a little girly and a little sassy! After all, it is a She Shed. Tina got busy adding cute furnishings, curtains, lights, and more. But it really wasn’t complete until she hung some of her favorite Bible verses on the wall.

“I look forward to many years of enjoyment from my shed and I will continue to share with my family and friends about Westwood Sheds and their quality craftsmanship. After I purchased my shed from Westwood, my cousin and her husband purchased one and so did a very close friend of mine. Both are enjoying their sheds as well.”

More than a She Shed

Not long after the She Shed was complete, Tina used it to host the very first board meeting for the shelter. God led Tina to Deuteronomy 32:4 and the name of the ministry was born—Righteous Rock Refuge. The building will be shaped like a cross and will have the capacity to house up to eight women. Plans are being made to start construction in January 2022 just across the way from Tina’s “She Shed by the Pond Shore.” The Lord has provided in so many ways for this ministry and the board believes He will continue to do so. The day we talked to Tina, she had just learned they had been awarded a grant for $5700. This will help pay for the grading of the land and the driveway, but more funds will be necessary.

Vision for the Future

As Tina sits on the porch, she reflects on her own past that God has graciously transformed into her personal testimony and a lifelong calling.  She longs for the day that Righteous Rock Refuge is filled with women who are seeking to change their trajectory and walk in new life. Until that day comes, she will continue to trust that God will bring His vision to fruition.

If you would like to give to Righteous Rock Refuge, here are some ways you can help.

  1. Pray for funds, staff, donations, and the women who will find refuge here.
  2. Sign-up for the newsletter to stay informed of needs and progress.
  3. Donate items and/or money.

Here are some ways you can connect:

Righteous Rock Refuge, Inc. is a 501-c3, Christian, charitable organization. All donations are tax-deductible.

He is the Rock! His work is perfect, for all his ways are just; a God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright is He.” –Deuteronomy 32:4
